An Extra Benefit Granted to Matti and Teppo

Matti and Teppo, along with 58 other artists, have been granted an additional artist pension by the Finnish Arts and Culture Agency this year.

The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency (Kuvi) has announced the recipients of this year's artist pension, with 59 artists receiving the financial support, including legendary musicians Matti and Teppo. This extra artist pension is designed to supplement an artist's retirement benefits and can be granted for outstanding contributions as a creative or performing artist. Starting from January 2026, the pension amount will be €1,637 per month, with the possibility of a partial pension if the recipient's other retirement income exceeds the pension amount.

Matti and Teppo, who are well-known figures in the music scene, have recently been relatively quiet, and there have been reports regarding the losses faced by their business venture. The granting of this extra pension highlights the recognition of their lengthy careers in the arts, providing them with a financial safety net as they enter this phase of their lives. Alongside them, other notable recipients include authors Anja Snellman and Eija-Riitta “Eppu” Nuotio, as well as guitarist-producer Riku Mattila.

The inclusion of established artists like Matti and Teppo underlines the importance of support for senior artists in Finland, particularly as they transition to retirement. These types of pensions are crucial in ensuring that artists who have made significant contributions to the cultural landscape can maintain a degree of financial security in their later years. This initiative from the Kuvi may also reflect a broader commitment within Finnish society to honor and support its cultural contributors, especially as they age and face potential financial difficulties during retirement.
