The 'Kim Gun-hee Luxury Bag Incident' that Led to the Death of the Anti-Corruption Director - An Investigation Will Be Launched
An investigation has been ordered into the handling of the 'Kim Gun-hee luxury bag incident' by South Korea's Anti-Corruption Department following the suspicious death of a top official involved in the case.
On September 9, Jeong Il-yeon, the new Chairman of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), announced the formation of a task force to investigate the handling of the case involving Kim Gun-hee's luxury handbags. This comes on the heels of the death of a senior ACRC official, Kim Amu-gae, who was found dead shortly after the resolution of the case, which has raised serious questions about the agency’s decision-making process. Jeong emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in cases that have public significance and directed inquiries into how the investigation was concluded without further action against high-profile individuals involved.
