Kenya: NTSA Rolls Out Instant Traffic Fines System With SMS Alerts to Motorists

The National Transport and Safety Authority in Kenya has launched an automated system to notify motorists of traffic violations via SMS, aiming to enhance road safety and reduce corruption.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in Kenya has officially launched the Instant Fines Traffic Management System, a technology-driven initiative designed to bolster road safety and put an end to corrupt practices in traffic enforcement. Following a directive from President William Ruto, this new system will automatically issue traffic violation notices directly to motorists through SMS alerts, ensuring timely and efficient communication regarding traffic offences.

NTSA's implementation of this system marks a significant step towards modernizing traffic management in Kenya. The authority emphasized that the process is fully automated, eliminating the need for human intervention. This enhancement is expected to lead to greater transparency, improve accountability, and ensure that motorists are promptly informed of any violations they commit. The system is now live, with the potential to transform how traffic fines are administered in the country.

Motorists found committing offences will receive instant notifications on their mobile phones regarding the violations. Once notified, they are required to settle the fines within seven days, which can be done through designated branches. This initiative not only aims to improve compliance among drivers but also contributes to the overarching goal of making Kenya's roads safer and reducing incidents that arise from unregulated traffic enforcement.
