JSW-MG is set to introduce a new car in the highly competitive Indian SUV market, aiming to take on the Hyundai Creta. The new model will replace the MG Astor, which has not achieved the same level of success as its rivals in the segment. This strategic shift comes after JSW-MG's initial foray into the market with the ZS EV and then the ICE version known as Astor, which did not meet expectations.

The upcoming midsize SUV will be built on the SIGMA platform, the same foundation used for the globally sold 4.5-meter-long MG One SUV. This versatile platform is designed to accommodate internal combustion engines (ICE), pure electric vehicles, and hybrids, allowing JSW-MG to target both electric consumers and traditional ICE users in India. The company intends to leverage this opportunity to enhance its presence in the evolving automotive landscape of the country.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the mention of a legendary SUV, Sierra-Creta, which is set to be launched on March 17, indicating a fierce competition within the market. By entering this segment, JSW-MG hopes to capture the interest of consumers and establish itself as a notable player amid established brands like Hyundai and others.
