The Estonian speed skating champion has made progress: and not hesitantly!
Estonian speed skaters Joonas Valge and Saskia Kütt won the national sprint multi-event championships, showcasing their talent and determination.
The Estonian speed skating season concluded at the Härma oval in Tallinn, with Joonas Valge and Saskia Kütt crowned as national champions in the sprint multi-event. Both athletes dominated their respective races over the two-day event, marking a significant achievement in their sporting careers. Valge, who has been competing in the World Cup series alongside fellow Estonian skater Marten Liiv in recent seasons, emphasized the importance of participating in national championships despite missing last season's event.
Valge explained that he was persuaded by Väino Treiman to compete this year, expressing that it was essential not only for his own career but also to inspire younger skaters by demonstrating proper speed skating techniques. His performance brought him close to breaking track records previously held by Liiv, missing them by a narrow margin of 0.7 seconds in the 500 meters and exactly one second in the 1000 meters. This season is seen as a pivotal step forward for Valge in his athletic journey.
The results from this championship highlight the growing competitiveness in Estonian speed skating and the potential for these athletes to perform on larger international stages. By showcasing their skills at home, Valge and Kütt are not only elevating their status within the sport but also helping to foster interest and development of speed skating among younger generations in Estonia.
