The Christian Social Union (CSU) in Bavaria is facing district elections with promising prospects to maintain the number of its district leaders, bolstering its visible local power base. In the recent Sunday elections, many incumbent CSU leaders successfully secured their positions, with Sebastian Gruber from Freyung-Grafenau achieving nearly 90% of the votes. Similarly, incumbent Werner Bumeder was re-elected in Dingolfing-Landau with about 65%, despite competition from the AfD, which hoped for breakthroughs in these areas. In numerous counties, however, runoff elections are expected, particularly in those where longstanding CSU district leaders chose not to seek re-election.
