Local Elections in Bavaria: Survey sees CSU at 33 and AfD at 14 percent – Losses for SPD and Greens
A recent survey indicates that the CSU leads in the upcoming Bavarian local elections with 33%, while the AfD sees a significant increase to 14%, with both SPD and Greens facing losses.
As Bavarians prepare for the local elections scheduled for March 8, recent polling by "17.30 SAT.1 Bayern" shows that the Christian Social Union (CSU) remains in the lead but with a reduced support of only 33%, down from 34.5% in the previous elections. The poll indicates a clear dominance of the CSU, although their support seems to be waning compared to previous years, suggesting potential shifts in voter sentiment in the region.
Following the CSU, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is projected to significantly increase its support to 14%, a stark rise from just 4.7% in the 2020 elections, indicating that far-right sentiments may be gaining traction among the electorate. This shift could reflect growing dissatisfaction with traditional parties and the political landscape in Bavaria, as voters look for alternative options.
In contrast, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Greens are facing notable declines. The SPD's anticipated vote share has plummeted to 8%, down from 13.7% in the last elections, while the Greens expect only 10%, a significant fall from their previous high of 17.5%. These trends point to a possible realignment of political loyalties in Bavaria, suggesting that the established parties may need to reassess their platforms and strategies moving forward to regain voter confidence.
