An 18-year-old was arrested in Barra Mansa after police found a loaded pistol in his armored car during a routine patrol.
In the early hours of Sunday, an 18-year-old man was arrested by the Military Police in Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro, after officers discovered a loaded pistol inside his armored vehicle during a routine patrol. The incident occurred on Avenida Presidente Kennedy, where police noticed a suspiciously parked vehicle with the driver inside it. Upon approaching, the officers initially conducted a personal search of the suspect, but no illegal items were found on him.
However, during a search of the vehicle, police uncovered a 9mm handgun located in the center console of the car, loaded with 17 rounds. Once the suspect realized that the police had found the weapon, he attempted to flee into the nearby Vila Delgado area, but was promptly chased down and apprehended by the officers. The young man was taken to the Barra Mansa police station, where he faced charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns over gun violence and illegal possession of firearms in Brazil, particularly among young individuals. The use of armored vehicles has been increasing in urban areas due to rising crime rates, and cases like this raise questions about the safety and legality of such measures. As the authorities continue to tackle this issue, the apprehension of the suspect underscores the efforts of local law enforcement to combat gun-related crimes in the region.
