LIVE: Rastorgujevs competes in biathlon mass start

Latvian biathlete Andrejs Rastorgujevs is competing in a mass start event after qualifying due to a strong performance in the 20 km individual race.

Latvian athlete Andrejs Rastorgujevs has qualified for the mass start of the biathlon competition following an outstanding performance in the 20 km individual race, where he finished in 9th place. Competing in Alūksne, he started the mass start event with a bib number 24, taking a calm approach early in the race as he skied until the first shooting range before making his mark in the competition.

Rastorgujevs adopted a strategic tactic by focusing on consistency during the early phase, arriving last at the first shooting range. However, his strategy paid off as he successfully hit all five targets, allowing him to remain competitive within the leading group of 19 biathletes, who were skiing closely together within a nine-second gap. In the second lap, he maintained the pressure on the leaders, recording the sixth fastest time as he reached the second prone shooting position in 16th place, just over 11 seconds behind the leader at that moment, French biathlete Emilien Jacquelin.

This season, Rastorgujevs has shown an impressive shooting accuracy of 89% in the prone position, which he slightly improved during this event since he also successfully hit all targets during his second shooting attempt. As the race progressed, he was determined to keep pace with the leaders, showcasing his skills and maintaining a strong performance throughout the competition as he aimed for a top finish.
