Mislabelled products found in stores - Kesko reacts immediately: "These cannot be sold"

Kesko is removing several nicotine pouch products from sale due to mislabeling issues identified in stores.

In Finland, the grocery chain Kesko has announced the immediate removal of several nicotine pouch products from sale following reports of mislabeling. Jani Lehtoranta, the purchasing and sales manager at Kesko, confirmed to Iltalehti that between three to five products are involved in this recall. The mislabeling was found when Iltalehti's journalist managed to procure these items from grocery stores in Helsinki, raising safety concerns about the accuracy of the product information available to consumers.

The mislabeling issue stems from a rounding error that affected the strength indicators on the product packaging. Although the nicotine content remains within legal limits, this discrepancy could lead to confusion among consumers regarding the potency of the products, prompting a swift response from Kesko. Lehtoranta expressed that the error was unnecessary and highlighted the importance of accurate labeling in retail.

Previously, both Kesko and the S-Group had mentioned their intention to investigate discrepancies related to nicotine pouch labeling further. This incident sheds light on the various challenges retailers face in ensuring product accuracy and maintaining consumer trust, thus prompting a broader discussion surrounding quality control standards in Finlandโ€™s grocery market.
