Video shows ex-boyfriend attacking woman in Baixada Fluminense; suspect is arrested
A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Brazil after being caught on security cameras attacking his ex-girlfriend in the municipality of São João de Meriti.
In São João de Meriti, a town in the Baixada Fluminense region of Brazil, a 33-year-old man named Edmilson Souza da Conceição was arrested by the Civil Police after security cameras captured him assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The incident occurred as she was on her way to work, highlighting issues of domestic violence in the area. The authorities have charged him with bodily injury and robbery due to the nature of the assault.
The victim reported to the police that she and the suspect were in a four-year relationship. Upon encountering her on the street, he demanded that she accompany him, allegedly threatening to make her “feel ashamed at work” if she refused. This intimidation escalated quickly into physical violence as he pushed and struck her when she refused to comply.
As she cried out for help during the attack, the incident caused a significant stir in the community and underscores the persistent issue of gender-based violence. The swift response from the police, particularly from the Women's Assistance Division, emphasizes the ongoing efforts to combat and respond to domestic violence in the region.
