Creatives join forces to shape young minds

Stakeholders from Nigeria's creative and early childhood development sectors have launched a coalition focused on enhancing children's education through culturally relevant entertainment.

On February 28, 2026, stakeholders from Nigeria’s creative and early childhood development sectors convened at Ogidi Studios in Lagos to inaugurate the Creative Industries for Early Childhood Development Coalition. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between entertainment and national human capital development. The event, under the theme "When Entertainment Meets Early Childhood," was hosted by the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC), in partnership with the World Bank and Ogidi Studios. The gathering included policymakers, entertainers, filmmakers, and child advocates, all of whom discussed the critical role culturally grounded content can play in early learning and the reinforcement of family values.

Participants at the event underscored the necessity of prioritizing early childhood development, seeing it as essential for Nigeria’s future economic growth and human capital development. They asserted that entertainment can be a powerful tool in shaping young minds and fostering an environment conducive to learning and family bonding. The coalition aims to develop new initiatives that resonate with children and help them grow into future leaders.

CBAAC’s Director-General, Aisha Augie, delivered a compelling welcome address, calling on creatives to focus on children as a primary audience in their works. This emphasis on child-centered content is expected to inform future projects within the Nigerian creative industry, ultimately contributing to the broader goals of human development and societal advancement in Nigeria.
