In recent weeks, residents of Louth Bay, located north of Port Lincoln in South Australia, have discovered dead marine mammals washed ashore, including an adult dolphin and an adult seal. Local resident Linda Davies noted her surprise at finding both a dolphin and a seal carcass on the same beach, a sight she has not witnessed in her 50 years of beach visits. This situation has heightened concerns about the health and safety of marine life in the region.

The Department for Environment and Water has stated that circumstances dictate whether a carcass will be retrieved for necropsy or testing, especially if the animal is too far gone in decomposition. Davies, who reported the incidents to the Department, expressed frustration over the lack of action taken regarding the carcasses, emphasizing the distressing sight of decaying marine life along the beach, which could potentially indicate larger environmental issues.
