Resident records water leak in aductor in Sorocaba; video

A resident in Sorocaba captured a video of a water leak from an aductor, reportedly caused by an attempted theft of the piping.

In Sorocaba, Brazil, a resident named Luiz Antonio Feitosa recorded a dramatic water leak from an aductor in the Jardim Zulmira neighborhood on Saturday morning. He mentioned that around 5 AM, he heard unusual noises, which he believed were related to someone trying to steal the water pipes. Shortly after, a section of the plumbing ruptured, resulting in a significant water discharge. According to Feitosa, the pipes had been exposed within a hole in the sidewalk for over two months, raising concerns about safety and waste.

The leak resulted in considerable water wastage, leading the local community to express their worries about the current state of the infrastructure. Feitosa pointed out that residents had repeatedly requested the Serviço Autônomo de Água e Esgoto (SAAE) to cover the hole to prevent theft attempts and avoid potential accidents. The unattended infrastructure has raised alarms about both water conservation and public safety, emphasizing the need for timely maintenance and repairs.

A SAAE employee reportedly visited the site around 10 AM to address the issue, but Feitosa criticized the temporary fix, stating that it did not seem durable enough to withstand the ongoing pressure. This incident highlights the challenges faced by local utilities in maintaining infrastructure and the impact of neglect on community resources, as residents continue to deal with the consequences of inadequate repairs and safety measures.
