A man attempting to break into an apartment in Itapema, Brazil, was shot by a resident wielding an unregistered firearm during the early hours.

In Itapema, Brazil, a man suspected of attempting to break into an apartment was shot by the resident during the early hours of Saturday, September 7th. The incident occurred at around 4:30 AM when the resident, startled by noises from the balcony door, called for his father to help. The father, armed and checking the situation, discovered a man crouched in front of the door, allegedly trying to force his way in. Upon police arrival, the suspect was found shot and was conscious but needed a surgery for a femur injury.

The police reported that the resident had the unregistered gun which he used to shoot the intruder in self-defense during the break-in attempt. The local authorities responded quickly by dispatching the 31st Military Police Battalion, who took both the suspect and the situation seriously due to the nature of the crime and involvement of firearms. Following the incident, the injured man was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery to repair his femur.

This situation highlights growing concerns about security and gun control in Brazil, following ongoing issues related to crime rates, particularly in urban areas. The use of unregistered firearms remains a contentious topic in the country, often sparking debates about personal safety versus legal regulations. While this incident was an act of self-defense, it may raise questions about the legality of the resident's firearm and the implications of using such weapons against suspected criminals.
