House is invaded by water during rain in the early morning in Hortolândia; family leaves property after damages
A family in Hortolândia, Brazil, was forced to leave their home after heavy rains caused flooding, leading to significant damages and loss of belongings.
In the early hours of Saturday, a family in the Jardim São Jorge neighborhood of Hortolândia, São Paulo, faced a distressing incident as heavy rains caused water to flood their home. The water invaded the house around 3:30 AM, bringing with it mud and debris that resulted in extensive damage to the family’s belongings. Residents reported that nearly every room, including the living room, bedrooms, and kitchen, was affected by the water, making the living conditions untenable.
Maria Arcanja, the homeowner, explained that the flooding was likely caused by a creek located behind the house, which overflowed due to the rainfall. Despite attempts to salvage some items, many possessions were left scattered and ruined. The family was awakened by the sudden intrusion of water and had to act quickly to remove as many items as possible to mitigate further loss. They described the aftermath as overwhelming, with a strong odor of dampness lingering inside the house.
As a result of the significant damages, the family made the difficult decision to relocate from their property. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges posed by severe weather patterns in the region, where urban infrastructure often struggles to cope with heavy rainfall, leading to repeated flooding incidents in vulnerable neighborhoods like Jardim São Jorge.
