Young boy rescued by helicopter in Helsinki
A young boy was successfully rescued from the waters of Helsinki's Vanhankaupunginlahti using a helicopter after he was located by drones and a border guard helicopter.
On a Saturday afternoon, a young boy was rescued from the Vanhankaupunginlahti area in Helsinki by local rescue services, assisted by a helicopter from the border guard. The operation was notable as the boy was found in a water area that was difficult to access due to high grass, making the rescue a challenge. Emergency fire chief Kari Ursin detailed that the use of drones and the helicopter played a crucial role in locating the boy and extracting him safely.
The rescue team utilized aerial support not only for locating the boy but also for lifting him, along with a rescue worker, from the tall grass surrounding the water. Ursin highlighted that navigating through the tall grass on foot would have been significantly slower and more complicated, emphasizing the efficiency provided by the helicopter in the situation. The operation was a quick response that underscored the importance of using technology such as drones and helicopters in modern rescue missions.
After the successful extraction, the boy was handed over to emergency medical services for evaluation, but fortunately, he did not require hospitalization. The rescue operation, which started shortly before four in the afternoon, showcases the collaborative efforts of various rescue services in Finland and their ability to respond effectively to potentially dangerous situations, ensuring the safety of individuals in distress.
