Riga Transport Plans to Implement 24-Hour Routes to the Airport
Riga Transport is planning to introduce 24-hour bus services to the airport to address challenges faced by late-night arrivals.
Late-night arrivals at Riga Airport have made it increasingly difficult for travelers to reach the city center or other districts, especially after public transport services cease operations. The current bus service, line 22, operates its last trip at 00:40, which only accommodates passengers arriving before midnight. Therefore, those arriving later must rely on pricey taxi services or forgo public transport entirely. In response to these challenges, a representative from Riga Transport explained the need for changes to improve service access for late-night flights.
To address these issues, Riga Transport is looking to expand its public transport offerings by implementing night bus routes. Last year, between spring and late October, they ran a pilot project with the support of the municipality, where select bus routes provided service to major areas of Riga during the night. This service underscores the increasing demand for improved public transport solutions catering to passengers with varying flight schedules, particularly within the context of a growing tourist industry.
The proposed plan includes the introduction of seven night routes aiming to enhance connectivity from the airport to various parts of the city. This move not only benefits travelers but also signifies a broader commitment to ensure that public transport remains viable and accessible around the clock. The emphasis is on creating a transport system that accounts for contemporary travel demands, improving the overall experience for arrivals in Riga, which is vital for the city's tourism and infrastructure development.
