Estonians fell short in the quarterfinals of the Lahti World Cup sprint
Estonian cross-country skiers did not advance to the quarterfinals in the free technique sprint at the Salpausselkä games in Lahti, Finland.
At the ongoing Salpausselkä games in Lahti, Finland, Estonian men and women cross-country skiers failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 1.5 km free technique sprint event. In the men's category, Henri Roos placed 66th with a time of +14.39 seconds behind the leader, while Martin Himma finished 70th, +15.57 seconds behind. A total of 76 competitors participated in the men's sprint qualification.
The qualification saw a diverse top ten, with Norway's Johannes Høsflot Klæbo achieving the best time at 2.42.32. French skier Lucas Chavanat and Italian Federico Pellegrino followed, finishing in second and third places, respectively. For the Estonian women, Mariel Merlii Pulles secured the highest placement, finishing 45th, just 3.17 seconds away from advancing to the next round. Kaidy Kaasiku and Keidy Kaasiku finished in 53rd and 54th places, respectively, with times indicating they, too, could not make it past qualification.
In the women's category, Swedish skiers swept the qualification with Jonna Sundlind clocking the fastest time of 3.02.90. Fellow Swedes Linn Svahn and Johanna Hägström took the second and third spots, respectively. Overall, the Estonian team faced tough competition at the international event, highlighting the challenges they encounter on the world stage in winter sports.
