Woman tricked into fake taxi raped by man who drove her to Sheffield home
A woman was raped by a man who pretended to be a taxi driver after she mistakenly entered his vehicle, thinking it would take her home from a Sheffield nightclub.
The incident occurred when a woman, after enjoying a night out with friends at a nightclub in Sheffield, mistakenly entered a vehicle she believed to be a taxi. The driver, Shabir Sultani, posed as a taxi driver and not only drove the woman to her Chesterfield home but also offered her alcohol during the ride. Upon arrival, instead of leaving as she requested, he forcibly entered her home, leading to a horrific assault.
After getting to her residence, Sultani ignored the victim's desperate pleas for him to leave and continued to escalate the situation by kissing her against her will. This brazen act of violence culminated in rape, highlighting the severe risks associated with fake taxi services, especially in nightlife zones. The case underscores the importance of awareness and safety measures for individuals using transportation services late at night.
As a result of his actions, Shabir Sultani was sentenced to 13 years in prison, along with a seven-year extension, reflecting the severity of the crime and the impact on the victim. This case serves as a chilling reminder for individuals to verify the legitimacy of their transportation options, particularly during late-night outings, and calls for greater public awareness of such predatory behaviors.
