Yellow warning and still chances of lightning

Iceland is under a yellow weather warning due to potential heavy rain and high winds across the country, with specific regions experiencing lightning.

Iceland is facing a yellow weather warning due to forecasted heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting most parts of the country. The advisory is in effect until around noon or later in the afternoon for various regions, including the East North, Strandir, Westfjords, and West North areas, where warnings extend until 4 PM. The first warning will expire in the Breiðafjörður region at noon, followed by the South and central highlands at 2 PM, where there are also chances of lightning similar to the previous day.

Winds are expected to be from the south at speeds of 18 to 25 meters per second, with gusts reaching up to 35 meters per second in some places. These conditions are anticipated to lead to poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions across the regions affected. According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office's forecast, temperatures will range between zero and five degrees Celsius, with a gradual decrease in wind intensity expected later in the day, although temperatures are predicted to drop further.

Weather analysts note that a low-pressure system causing the storm and snowfall is situated 200 kilometers west of Bjargtangir. The situation could pose challenges to residents and travelers alike, necessitating caution and preparedness for adverse weather conditions over the course of the day. This warning highlights the continuing unpredictable nature of Icelandic weather, especially during the transitional seasons, which often bring imposing weather patterns that can swiftly change.
