Golden and Silver Biatec / Slovakia Will Issue Its Own Investment Coins
Slovakia's central bank has announced the issuance of its own silver and gold investment coins, inspired by ancient Celtic designs.
The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) has confirmed a historic decision to issue silver and gold investment coins, which is particularly exciting news for collectors and investors in precious metals. The design will be based on the ancient Celtic coin known as Biatec, merging traditional elements with contemporary needs. The design competition for these collector coins took place in December 2024, although it initially ended without a winner. A second competition held in May produced a winner: Czech artist Jaroslav Tvrz, who created a design that emphasizes historical significance while still being appealing to modern investors.
The obverse, or front side, of the coin features the building of the National Bank of Slovakia, with the nominal value text styled to resemble the original script found on historical coins. Decorative arcs from the original Celtic coins are incorporated, aiming to provide a sense of authenticity and connection to Slovakia's cultural heritage. Additionally, the state emblem has been tailored to give it a 'worn' appearance, contributing to the overall aesthetic of historical reverence.
On the reverse side, the design showcases the Biatec coin itself, accompanied by Latin descriptions. This decision to root the new coins in historical design reflects a broader trend of economic sentiment within Slovakia, signifying a commitment to blending history with modern financial practices. Such investment coins may not only serve as collectibles but could also foster a renewed interest in investing within the local market, resonating with both collectors and everyday investors alike.
