Golden and Silver Biatec / Slovakia Will Issue Its Own Investment Coins

Slovakia will issue its first-ever silver and gold investment coins based on the historical Biatec coin, confirmed by the National Bank of Slovakia.

The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) has announced that for the first time in history, it will release silver and gold investment coins, fulfilling the long-held dreams of collectors and investors in precious metals. The design of these coins will be inspired by the ancient Celtic Biatec coin, which is expected to play a significant role in their naming. The announcement follows a competition for the coin's design that was first announced in December 2024, but with no winner. It resumed in May 2025, ultimately awarding the design to Czech artist Jaroslav Tvrz.

The front side, or averz, of the coin will prominently feature the building of the national bank. The artist has stylized the text indicating the nominal value and currency designation to resemble original inscriptions found on historical coins. Decorative arches have also been adapted from original Celtic coins, while the depiction of the national coat of arms aims to project an 'aged' appearance, adding to the coins' historical authenticity. This thoughtful design approach reflects a desire to connect modern Slovakia with its rich history and cultural heritage.

On the reverse side, known as the reverz, the Biatec coin itself will be depicted. This representation includes Latin descriptions that align with the ancient coin's historical context. As Slovakia prepares to enter the market with these innovative investment coins, it is poised to attract attention from both local and international collectors and investors, potentially impacting the local economy by promoting the precious metals market and enhancing national pride through its historical connection to the Biatec coin.
