David Colmenares presents his vision to deputies to strengthen superior auditing 2026-2034
David Colmenares discussed his plans for enhancing superior auditing in Mexico from 2026 to 2034 before the Commission of Surveillance of the Superior Audit of the Federation.
In a presentation before the Commission of Surveillance of the Superior Audit of the Federation in the Chamber of Deputies, Auditor General David Colmenares Páramo outlined his vision and proposals for strengthening the country's superior auditing framework from 2026 to 2034. He highlighted achievements from his tenure over the past eight years and emphasized the need for continued improvement in oversight practices to ensure accountability and transparency in government spending.
Colmenares introduced a strategic shift initiated in 2018 through the establishment of a Strategic Plan, which reformed the organization’s approach to auditing. This new vision included comprehensive and thematic reviews, shifting the focus of audits based on risk analysis, which significantly broadened the scope of entities subject to scrutiny. He stressed the importance of adapting to contemporary challenges to safeguard the proper use of public resources.
During his address, Colmenares acknowledged the efforts of Jaime Bolaños Cacho Guzmán, head of the Planning Unit, for their role in implementing these strategic measures. This initiative has the potential to not only enhance the efficacy of audits but also foster a culture of accountability among public officials, critical for the democratic processes in Mexico. He urged legislators to support these proposals to ensure an effective auditing system in the coming years.
