Apae de Monte Azul Paulista demands R$ 160,000 from the city hall and says it will suspend services
Apae de Monte Azul Paulista plans to suspend services due to a R$ 160,000 financial shortfall caused by delayed funding from the city hall.
The Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional People (Apae) in Monte Azul Paulista, São Paulo, has announced it will suspend its services starting next Monday due to a delay of two months in financial transfers from the local government, amounting to R$ 160,000. This funding is critical for the operation of the facility, which serves 43 children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and provides essential support services including psychological, psychiatric, and nutritional assistance.
Jurandir Assad Netto, the treasurer of Apae, highlighted that negotiations with the municipal administration began in January regarding the renewal of the funding agreement necessary for the facility's operation. Despite these discussions, the city hall has not issued the overdue payments, putting additional financial strain on Apae. The organization, which relies heavily on these funds to pay for dedicated staff and services, finds itself unable to continue operations without the necessary financial support.
The implications of this funding delay extend beyond just financial logistics; they significantly affect the children and families dependent on Apae's services. The suspension of support could disrupt the developmental activities that are crucial for the well-being of the children affected by ASD and undermine the critical support system that Apae has built within the community. This situation raises questions about the prioritization of resources by local government in supporting essential health and welfare organizations, particularly during challenging times.
