Accident leaves two teenagers injured on an avenue in Campinas

Two teenagers were injured in a traffic accident in Campinas, Brazil, while riding an electric bike and crossing the street against a red light.

On the afternoon of Friday, November 6, a traffic accident occurred on the marginal avenue of Camucim in Campinas, São Paulo, injuring two teenagers aged 14 and 16. According to reports from EPTV, an affiliate of TV Globo, the boys were riding an electric bike along the sidewalk when they reportedly crossed the street at a red light. A car that was traveling along the avenue was unable to avoid them, resulting in a collision.

One of the teenagers suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by the Military Police helicopter to the Hospital de Clínicas at Unicamp, while the other was taken to the PUC-Campinas Hospital, where doctors suspected he had a fracture. The local authorities have taken measures to close the road temporarily to ensure safety and conduct investigations related to the accident.

This incident highlights the ongoing issues of road safety, especially regarding young cyclists in urban areas. The violation of traffic signals and the potential dangers of electric bikes on busy streets raise concerns about the regulatory framework surrounding electric vehicles and the need for enhanced safety measures for young riders.
