Couple from Grande São Paulo trapped on cruise ship in Dubai obtains repatriation flight
A couple from Poá, São Paulo, who was stuck on a cruise ship in Dubai, has secured a repatriation flight following increased attacks in the region.
Tathiana Suwaki Amorim and her husband, Cristian de Amorim, residents of Poá in the Grande São Paulo area, have been stranded on the cruise ship MSC Euríbia since February 28 while it has been docked in Dubai due to ongoing conflicts in the region. Their hope for repatriation emerged after MSC Cruzeiros, the cruise company, arranged for flights to facilitate the return of passengers amid a backdrop of decreasing air travel options.
According to Tathiana, MSC Cruzeiros communicated that they would be transported to Barcelona, Spain, although the specific flight details and the airline responsible for the journey were still unknown. She mentioned that they are expected to meet at the ship’s designated point at 7 AM for their transfer to the airport. The situation poses a challenge as Tathiana indicated that while flights have been arranged for the repatriation, passengers need to purchase their onward tickets from Barcelona to their final destinations, adding a financial burden to the situation.
Tathiana also noted that the cruise company is managing the logistics for departing guests, but the uncertainty surrounding the timeline and arrangements adds to the stress of being stranded abroad. Their experience highlights the broader implications of how international travelers can become affected by geopolitical issues, showcasing the importance of timely communication from travel companies in crisis situations.
