Juan Bautista Mahiques confirmed who will lead the Anti-Corruption Office and the IGJ
New Justice Minister Juan Bautista Mahiques announced the appointments for leadership roles at the Anti-Corruption Office and the General Inspection of Justice in Argentina.
On a recent announcement, Argentina's new Justice Minister, Juan Bautista Mahiques, confirmed the appointments for two critical agencies: the General Inspection of Justice (IGJ) and the Anti-Corruption Office. This move comes as part of changes within the justice sector, which Mahiques defends as necessary and aligned with carrying out governmental policies. Mahiques emphasized the importance of these roles in maintaining integrity and combating corruption within governmental operations.
Mahiques has appointed Gabriela Zangaro to lead the Anti-Corruption Office. Zangaro has an extensive background as a judge, serving in the Criminal and Misdemeanor Court since 2003 and is currently a councilor with the Judicial Council. Her appointment signals a strategic choice to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of the office tasked with preventing corruption in public service, which had previously been led by Alejandro Melik.
During the announcement, Mahiques addressed the still-unknown successor for Daniel Vítolo at the IGJ, hinting that the name has emerged in the media and is a lawyer well-versed in the field, an alumni of the Universidad Austral. However, he maintained a level of secrecy regarding the specifics, which indicates ongoing discussions in the government about how to move forward with these appointments and the overall reform strategy within the justice system.
