Matti Nykänen's eternal record was reached

Slovenian ski jumper Domen Prevc has broken a long-standing record held by Finnish legend Matti Nykänen.

Domen Prevc, a Slovenian ski jumper, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the long-standing achievements of Finnish icon Matti Nykänen. Until recently, Nykänen held the unique distinction of being the only ski jumper to have won Olympic gold, World Championship gold, the Ski Flying World Championship gold, the Four Hills Tournament, and the overall World Cup title. Nykänen's record was established in 1985 and stood unchallenged until Prevc's recent success.

The confirmation of Prevc's victory in the overall World Cup came after the competition at the Lahti ski jump, where despite being disqualified, he had enough points to secure the title. His closest competitor, Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, finished sixth in the same competition and can no longer catch up to Prevc in the standings, solidifying his place at the top. Prevc demonstrated his prowess with a remarkable jump of 129 meters at the Salppuris event, although the length of his skis led to a disqualification.

Prevc's achievements at the recent Milano-Cortina Olympics further cement his status in the sport, as he won gold medals in both the large hill and normal hill mixed events. With a total of three World Championship medals and four Ski Flying World Championship medals to his name, Prevc's record-breaking season signifies not just a personal triumph but also marks a new era in ski jumping, as he steps out of the shadow of Nykänen's legendary status.
