Incredible performance! Matti Nykänen's record under threat

Domen Prevc's recent achievements put him in the running to challenge Matti Nykänen's legendary ski jumping record.

The Finnish ski jumping legend Matti Nykänen remains the only athlete in history to have won Olympic gold, World Championship gold, Four Hills Tournament, and the overall World Cup title. However, with Domen Prevc's recent accomplishments, it appears that Nykänen's record may soon be challenged. The 26-year-old Slovenian won Olympic gold from the large hill and is now only one title away from matching Nykänen's historic achievements.

Currently, Prevc is leading the World Cup standings by a significant margin of 625 points ahead of Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi. With just six competition weekends remaining in the season, he is very close to securing the overall World Cup title, making the prospect of his success highly likely. As noted by ski jumping expert Johan Remen Evensen, the expectation is that it would take an extraordinary occurrence for Prevc not to win the overall competition this year.

The key difference between Prevc and Nykänen is the time it took Nykänen to accumulate his five major victories; he required six years to achieve that milestone. In contrast, Prevc’s rapid rise suggests he might reach this remarkable feat in a significantly shorter time, potentially reshaping the history of ski jumping and our understanding of what future athletes might achieve.
