Businessman is kidnapped, shot, and forced to transfer R$ 20,000 to criminals in Amazonas

A businessman in Amazonas was kidnapped, shot, and forced to transfer R$ 20,000 to his captors before being abandoned.

On the night of October 4, a 32-year-old businessman was kidnapped and shot by four masked men in Itapiranga, Amazonas. According to police reports, the victim was approached in front of his house in the Jardim Primavera neighborhood around 11:40 PM. The kidnappers used his own vehicle to transport him to a rural area where he was tortured and coerced into making bank transfers via Pix, an instant payment platform popular in Brazil.

Despite complying with the kidnappers' demands and sending the requested amount of R$ 20,000, the victim was shot before being left in another part of the city. Though gravely injured, he managed to seek help and was taken to a local hospital around 5 AM on October 5. The police continue to investigate the incident, searching for the suspects who remain unidentified and at large.

This incident sheds light on the ongoing challenges of violence and crime faced by business owners in Brazil, especially in remote areas where law enforcement may be less effective. The psychological and physical trauma inflicted on victims in such violent crimes underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures for individuals and businesses alike in regions affected by organized crime.
