Part of the roof of the Jaraguá Market collapses during work in Maceió; VIDEO
A partial collapse of the Jaraguá Market's roof occurred in Maceió, Brazil, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
On the afternoon of October 6th, part of the roof of the Jaraguá Market in Maceió, Brazil, collapsed while work was being conducted. The Corpo de Bombeiros (Fire Department) reported that at the time of the incident, only three workers were present, and none suffered injuries. The collapse was classified as partial, and emergency services quickly mobilized two vehicles and seven military personnel to address the situation.
The Instituto de Desenvolvimento Rural e Abastecimento de Alagoas (Ideral) stated that the building was undergoing requalification works, and the collapse of the roof was anticipated in the planning stages of the project. Davi Maia, the president of Ideral, explained that the removal of the roof was already scheduled, and the actions taking place to demolish certain internal walls accelerated the process, effectively leading to the unexpected collapse. He emphasized that such incidents are part of the ongoing renovation process.
The incident highlighted the importance of safety protocols during construction works, especially in older structures like the Jaraguá Market. Thankfully, with proper management and communication from Ideral, no injuries were reported, and the situation was contained swiftly. The developments may serve as a reminder of the inherent risks in renovation projects and the need for vigilant monitoring during such transformative processes.
