Lula participates in the announcement of Gol's hub at Galeão with a direct route between Rio and New York

President Lula announces a new direct flight route between Rio de Janeiro and New York starting in July 2026.

On Friday, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participated in the announcement of a new direct flight route connecting Rio de Janeiro to New York, set to commence in July 2026, operated by Gol Linhas Aéreas. The new service will include three flights weekly and is part of establishing an international hub for Gol at the Tom Jobim International Airport (Galeão). The announcement was made at the airport's administrative building and gathered key local officials and company executives.

The connection will link Galeão Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. To facilitate this international route, the City of Rio has planned an investment incentive of approximately R$ 6 million. This expansion of international routes is perceived as a strategic move to enhance Rio's status as a global tourist destination, promoting accessibility and connectivity between Brazil and the United States.

As Brazil's tourism sector increasingly looks to rebound and grow post-pandemic, establishing this direct route is seen as crucial for attracting international visitors, enhancing economic growth, and strengthening international ties. The initiative reflects broader efforts in Brazil to improve air travel infrastructure and boost its tourism appeal in the competitive global market.
