Oilers forward Janmark has season-ending surgery

Mattias Janmark will miss the rest of the NHL season after undergoing surgery for an undisclosed injury.

The Edmonton Oilers confirmed that forward Mattias Janmark will not return for the remainder of the 2025-26 NHL season following a surgery for an undisclosed injury. Head coach Kris Knoblauch announced the news, indicating that Janmark will be sidelined for the entirety of the season, including the playoffs. The injury had kept him out of action since a match against the Anaheim Ducks on February 25, where the Oilers suffered a 6-5 loss.

Janmark, a 33-year-old Swedish forward, has had a tumultuous season, appearing in only 41 games and recording just one goal along with seven assists. His limited contributions are a concern for the Oilers as they navigate competitive playoff aspirations. Originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, he has played over 680 regular-season games in the NHL, representing teams like Dallas, Chicago, Vegas, and Edmonton, showcasing his extensive experience in the league.

Despite the current setback due to injury, the organization holds optimism about Janmark's recovery, expecting him to be ready for next season's training camp. His prior contributions in the previous season, especially during back-to-back Stanley Cup finals, have established him as a valuable presence in the team’s roster. The Oilers will need to adapt to his absence as they aim to make a deep playoff run this year.
