Classes in municipal, state and federal networks return next Monday; 28 units remain with suspended service

Classes for most students in Juiz de Fora will resume next Monday after a nearly 10-day suspension due to severe weather that resulted in significant casualties and displacements.

Most students in Juiz de Fora will be back in classes as of next Monday, October 9, following a nearly 10-day suspension of classes across municipal, state, and federal institutions. This suspension was necessary in the aftermath of devastating floods and storms that claimed 65 lives and left over 8,500 people either homeless or displaced. The return to classes signifies a step towards normalcy for the affected communities, although the situation remains precarious for many families in the region.

The municipal education network will see a partial return, as 83 out of 107 municipal schools are prepared to resume operations, while 46 of the 50 partner daycare centers will also welcome approximately 5,850 children back to their facilities. However, one notable exception is the João XXIII Application School, which will remain closed to allow for emergency repairs, highlighting ongoing concerns over safety and infrastructure following the catastrophic weather events.

The gradual return to educational services underscores the importance of restoring normalcy while also addressing the needs of those still affected by the disaster. Authorities are aiming to assess the conditions of other educational institutions to ensure safety before fully resuming operations, and the community continues to recover from the aftermath of this tragic event.
