Rio de Janeiro's mayor, Eduardo Paes, inaugurated the Professor Moacyr Sreder Bastos Tunnel with President Lula, aimed at improving traffic flow in Campo Grande.
The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, inaugurated the Professor Moacyr Sreder Bastos Tunnel, the first of its kind in Campo Grande, on Friday with the presence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. This event also saw the attendance of the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, highlighting the project’s significance at the national level. The tunnel is part of a broader initiative to enhance the transportation infrastructure within Campo Grande, which is noted as the most populous neighborhood in Brazil.
The construction of the tunnel aims to significantly improve traffic conditions by creating a new connection between Caroba and Posse roads, which is expected to reduce travel time between these areas from 15 minutes to just 3 minutes. This timely completion represents a crucial step towards reorganizing traffic in one of Rio's key districts, fostering the potential for economic growth and easier commuting for residents.
This tunnel project is classified by the city government as the main component of the first phase of the planned ring road outlined in Campo Grande's Mobility Plan. The implementation of such infrastructure is expected to set a new standard for urban mobility in the region, reflecting the authorities' commitment to improve transport conditions and enhance local quality of life for the residents of Campo Grande.
