Dimitris Koutsoumpas, the Secretary General of the KKE, requests a digital copy of 12 significant photographs documenting the execution of 200 individuals in Kaisariani from Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni.
Dimitris Koutsoumpas, the General Secretary of the Greek Communist Party (KKE), has sent a letter to Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, requesting the release of a digital copy of 12 photographs that depict the historical event of the execution of 200 people in Kaisariani. These photographs are part of a collection of 262 photos belonging to Hermann Hoyer, which has been declared a monument and transferred to the Greek state. The request emphasizes the significance of these images in representing a crucial part of Greece's modern history.
During a recent press conference, Minister Mendoni highlighted that the Greek Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Greek embassy in Belgium, has acquired additional historical documents and artifacts. Specifically, she noted the procurement of 16 documents and four old Greek banknotes, with a total expenditure of 100,000 euros for the historical material. Mendoni also stressed the need for proper protection, conservation, and scientific documentation of the collection to ensure its historical significance is maintained and brought to wider public attention.
Furthermore, she affirmed that once the archives are digitized, they would be accessible to all interested parties, including the KKE and the municipality of Kaisariani. This move is seen as crucial for preserving historical memory and facilitating research, indicating the ongoing efforts by the Greek government to maintain and share its cultural heritage, especially concerning critical narratives from its past.
