Kail Timusk Wins the Young Sculptor's Grand Prize

Kail Timusk won the Grand Prize at the 'Metamorphosis' exhibition featuring young sculptors in Estonia.

The 'Metamorphosis' exhibition featuring the works of young sculptors was recently opened at the ARS Project Space in Estonia, showcasing a blend of traditional and modern techniques and materials. The event was marked by the announcement of the Young Sculptor's Grand Prize, awarded to Kail Timusk for his piece 'Requiem Larium', which uniquely combines elements from a dismantled house on Vormsi Island, metal, organ pipes, fire, and sound.

The exhibition is part of a broader effort to explore the evolving mediums and creative expressions of contemporary sculpture, reflecting the interests of both current students and graduates from the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA). Kirke Kangro, the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at EKA, highlighted the significance of pushing the boundaries of materiality and conceptual approaches in modern sculpture, which has become a defining pursuit among young sculptors.

In addition to Timusk's grand prize, the exhibition also recognized innovative works from other artists, including Maria Wrang Rasmussen, who received second place for her piece 'Sleepers in Syrup.' This initiative not only supports emerging artists but also fosters a dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary technological experimentation in the field of sculpture, positioning Estonia's artistic community at the forefront of global trends in the medium.
