The municipality plans to renovate the roof of Lielstraupe Castle within a year
The Cēsis municipality is planning to renovate the roof of Lielstraupe Castle, addressing significant damage and funding concerns.
The Cēsis municipality is taking steps to address long-standing issues with the roof of Lielstraupe Castle, where significant damage has raised concerns about the structure's integrity and usability of the interior spaces. Castle director Rudīte Vasile highlighted the presence of holes and drafts that impair the building's functionality, underscoring the urgency of the renovation project.
A project for the roof's renovation has reportedly been developed, with the possibility of construction starting as early as summer and expected to take about a year to complete if the procurement process proceeds as planned. The estimated cost for the project is roughly 230,000 euros funded by the European Regional Development Fund, with the local government potentially contributing an additional 400,000 euros, although exact details are yet to be finalized.
In addition to the renovation of the roof, various other solutions for the castle's future development are being considered. The local government appears committed to revitalizing the historical site, which suggests a broader strategy for heritage management in the region, enhancing tourism and preserving cultural landmarks in Cēsis.
