Experts do not associate Belarusian radio reception in Latvia with increased power; risks in the information space have not grown

Experts reported that the reception of Belarusian radio in Latvia has not increased due to changes in transmission power, and risks to the information space remain unchanged.

A group of experts analyzing the reception of Belarusian radio signals in Latvia concluded that there has been no increase in the risks related to the information space. Contrary to previous reports, the Belarusian FM station broadcasting at 107.7 megahertz has not increased its signal transmission power. Additionally, the cancellation of the LR 4 station's frequency in Riga (107.7 MHz) does not affect the ability of listeners to receive radio programs in Latgale, particularly in the border regions of Latvia.

During discussions, the working group heard presentations from specialists, including those from SIA "Elektroniskie sakari," which is responsible for the management and monitoring of the radio frequency spectrum in Latvia. Their monitoring results from Daugavpils indicated that there has been no change in the broadcasting parameters of the Belarusian FM 107.7 MHz station. The recent transition of LR 4's previously used frequency, FM 88.7 MHz, which ceased its broadcasting in Latvia at the beginning of 2026, is now being utilized for the Latvia Radio 1 program, supplemented with content from LSM's Latgale branch.

Thus, the situation regarding Belarusian radio stations remains stable in Latvia, and the expert group reassured the public about the current state of transmission and information risks. This reassessment is important as it directly affects how media policies are shaped and informs the public about the reliability of radio reception amid geopolitical tensions in the region.
