Before the KDH Congress / No change of leadership is planned, regions need to be calmed down. A medical battle for the vice presidency is emerging

The KDH political party in Slovakia is set to hold a congress where it will elect two new vice-presidents, despite discussions around changing leadership not materializing.

Delegates from the opposition party KDH (Christian Democratic Movement) will gather for their congress in Ružomberok on Saturday. As the party had previously decided to extend the chairperson's term from two to four years, no new leader will be elected at this congress, amidst speculation of a leadership change. The party is focused on filling two vacant vice-presidential positions left open since the last congress in March 2024.

The decision to appoint new vice-presidents comes after the departure of two members from the leadership team: Matina Bajo Holečková, who resigned from her position following her tenure as leader of the parliamentary group, and Jozef Hajko, who quietly left last year. As the party prepares for the elections, it aims to ensure representation from all regions by considering candidates like Andrea Baníková and Rastislav Mráz to fill these roles, indicating a strategic effort to balance leadership representation.

Overall, the KDH's internal dynamics reflect both stability and change, as the party seeks to reinforce its governance structure while calming any unrest within its regional factions. The selections to be made at this congress will likely influence the future direction of KDH, especially with the backdrop of increasingly competitive political landscapes in Slovakia.
