Germany's Defense Ministry explains that its lack of military contribution to Cyprus is due to a division of responsibilities within NATO, not reluctance or indifference.
The German Defense Ministry clarified that its absence of military support for Cyprus is attributed to a division of labor rather than any hesitation or disregard. A spokesperson pointed out that German forces have taken on specific responsibilities in the eastern flank of NATO, which limits their ability to contribute to Cyprus specifically. Additionally, it was highlighted that Article 42 of the EU Treaty has not been activated because Cyprus reached out to partners bilaterally for support.
