Antalya: We don't want more tourists. We want the ones we have to spend more

Antalya, a major Mediterranean resort, is shifting its focus from increasing tourist numbers to boosting revenue per visitor.

Antalya, one of the key resorts in the Mediterranean basin, is entering a new phase of development that prioritizes revenue generation over sheer attendance figures in the tourism industry. This strategic pivot reflects a broader intention to enhance the financial contributions from tourists and elevate the overall spending levels, a shift that could also significantly affect Polish tour operators and hoteliers who are working with Turkish partners.

According to Hürriyet Daily News, numerous representatives from the tourism sector have highlighted this change in strategy, indicating a movement towards a profitability model rather than one based purely on volume. Antalya has achieved a remarkable visitor count of approximately 17 million tourists a year, which, as stated by Kaan Kaşif Kavaloğlu, the head of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (AKTOB), is now viewed as a benchmark rather than a target for further growth.

The emphasis is now on maintaining this figure while ensuring that visitor spending increases, which would enhance the local economy and provide more sustainable tourism revenue streams. This change not only signals a maturation of the Turkish tourism market but may also open new opportunities for cooperation and growth between Poland and Turkey in the tourism sector.
