Elderly man goes missing while retrieving fishing net in the São Francisco River and is found dead

An elderly man who went missing while retrieving a fishing net from the São Francisco River in Brazil has been found dead by rescue teams.

On Thursday, November 5, rescuers retrieved the body of an elderly man who had been missing in the São Francisco River in the Tapera community of São Francisco municipality. Witnesses reported that the victim went to collect a fishing net early Wednesday morning and did not return. Subsequently, a local individual noticed the victim's boat drifting in the river, along with some personal belongings, including flip-flops and a cap that were floating on the water.

Search operations commenced the same day, and the body was discovered late Thursday afternoon, near where the man's boat had been found. The Civil Police were notified, and after conducting their procedural investigations, the body was released to the Medical Legal Institute (IML) in Januária for further examination. The causes of death have not been disclosed, indicating a need for further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the firefighters involved in the rescue, the search efforts were complicated by the river's conditions, which could have played a role in the incident. This tragic occurrence highlights the potential dangers faced by individuals engaging in fishing activities in natural water bodies, emphasizing the importance of safety measures and community awareness about local water hazards.
