Most ski trails end the winter season

Most ski trails in Latvia are concluding their winter operations this week, with several locations planning specific closing dates.

This week in Latvia, the majority of ski trails are wrapping up their winter season operations, as per public information from the respective ski areas. Notable closures include "Briežkalns" in the Madona municipality, "Žagarkalns" and "Ozolkalns" in Cēsis municipality, and "Riekstukalns" in Ķekava, all scheduled for completion on March 8. Meanwhile, Gaiziņkalns, also in Madona, is expected to finish its season this week, although it has competitive events planned for March 11.

In contrast, some ski areas remain flexible depending on weather conditions. For instance, representatives from "Milzkalns" in Tukums mentioned that they could potentially stay open into next week if the weather remains favorable. Additionally, "Lemberga hūtes" in Ventspils has planned a closing event on March 7 but will continue operations as long as weather permits. Other trails like "Egļukalns" in Augšdaugava maintain their activities due to sufficient snowfall.

Lastly, the situation at "Smeceres sila" in Madona also remains optimistic, with plans to continue operations since the trail and forest section are still in appropriate condition. This variance in operational status across different ski areas highlights the impact of local weather conditions on the winter sports season in Latvia, with some areas capable of extending the season while others are setting definitive closure dates.
