Løkke: 'Overwhelming interest' in special flights from the Middle East
Around 800 Danes have expressed interest in returning home via a special flight from the United Arab Emirates, scheduled by the Foreign Ministry for Sunday, according to Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
The Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, announced that approximately 800 citizens have shown interest in a special repatriation flight from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that is set for Sunday. This flight is being organized in response to the needs of Danish citizens currently abroad and who are on the ministry's voluntary registration list for repatriation. However, there are only 200 seats available on the flight, leading to a first-come, first-serve principle to allocate these spots.
Minister Løkke emphasized the overwhelming response to this initiative and noted that the Ministry is taking steps to assess the ongoing interest among those who may still wish to return home. He referenced the growing number of commercial flight options available from the UAE, implying that while this special flight is accommodating a pressing need, other avenues for return are also opening up for Danish citizens.
The situation highlights the continued challenges faced by citizens abroad due to the ongoing global issues, while also showcasing the Danish government’s responsive measures to assist its citizens. The influx of interest indicates a significant demand for supportive travel arrangements during uncertain times and reflects the urgency among expats in the region looking to return home.
