LTOK Assembly - Throwing around "liar" labels and court review of last year's Olympic budget

A disagreement at the LTOK Assembly led to two proposed budgets for the 2025 Olympic Committee, resulting in a court ruling validating the budget amendment process.

In the LTOK Assembly held in spring 2025, disagreements arose between the national Olympic committee and four sports federations – athletics, biathlon, cycling, and tennis – regarding the allocation of funds for Olympic activities. During the assembly, two budgets for the 2025 Olympic Committee were proposed, one allocating 40,000 euros in support for each of these federations from the LTOK fund, while the other did not. A significant majority of assembly members opposed allocating this support, resulting in tensions between the federations and the Olympic committee.

In response to this decision, the affected federations expressed their discontent, threatening to pursue legal action against the LTOK. Consequently, they filed a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. The court ruled that the decision made during the LTOK General Assembly regarding the budget was amendable, stating that it did not comply with the procedures set forth in the LTOK statutes. However, the CAS also rejected the appellants' request to convene a new General Assembly to approve a specific budget with operational support for the federations.

This verdict underscores the challenges facing sports governance in Lithuania, highlighting significant divisions within the Olympic committee and various sports associations. It reflects a broader issue concerning the distribution of resources and support among different sports disciplines, which could have long-term implications for the development of sports in the country, particularly ahead of the Olympics.
