Beyond Judgment to Management... Olympic 'Trust' Shaken
Issues surrounding fairness in event management are undermining the credibility of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Concerns regarding the fairness in event management have arisen as various issues taint the credibility of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. The biggest controversy emerged during the men's ski jumping super team final on January 17, when heavy snowfall caused the competition to be suspended with only three athletes left to jump. The International Ski Federation (FIS) decided to nullify the results of the third round due to safety concerns and determined final standings based solely on results from the second round, leading to Austria winning gold with 568.7 points, followed by Poland and Norway. Athletes from Germany, Slovenia, and Japan, who had potential for reversal in the third round, were left disappointed, and while the federation justified their decision based on regulations, evaluations of the situation were mixed as the snowfall subsequently eased.
