Last chance to add or remove names from the voter list in UP

Today marks the deadline for submitting claims and objections under the special brief revision campaign for the voter list in Uttar Pradesh.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission's special brief revision campaign is coming to a close, allowing citizens to submit claims and objections regarding the voter list. This initiative aims to facilitate the inclusion of new voters while removing erroneous or unnecessary names from the rolls. Approximately 8.234 million people have applied to add their names to the voter list through Form-6, which is for new voters or those whose names were previously omitted for some reason.

The process encourages active participation in the electoral process, highlighting the importance of an accurate voter list for upcoming elections. The department has stated that the names of those who have submitted Form-6 will be included in the new voter list under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) once the verification process is completed. On the other hand, there is also a significant number of applications to remove names from the voter list, with about 284,000 Form-7 applications received, which has initiated the procedures for removing names from the list.

This voter list revision is crucial, particularly in a large and diverse state like Uttar Pradesh, as it impacts the representation of citizens in elections. The steps taken by the Election Commission reflect a commitment to ensuring that the electoral rolls are up to date and accurately reflect the eligible voter population. As today is the last day for these submissions, citizens are urged to finalize their applications promptly to ensure their voting eligibility.
