Felipe Contepomi began his third year as head coach of Los Pumas with the call-up of 31 players to concentrate in London
Los Pumas' head coach Felipe Contepomi has called up 31 players for a three-day training camp in London as he enters his third year in charge of the Argentine national rugby team.
Felipe Contepomi, having completed two years as head coach of Los Pumas, has initiated his third year with a three-day training camp set to take place in London from March 9 to 11. This camp will involve 31 players, out of the 63 he has called up since taking over the coaching role. Despite the absence of key players such as captain Julián Montoya and historical figure Pablo Matera, the gathering aims to set the groundwork for future competitions, specifically looking ahead to 2026.
The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) issued a statement addressing the notable absences, which include not only Montoya and Matera, but also experienced players Franco Molina and Pedro Rubiolo, and Juan Cruz Mallía, who is sidelined due to injury. These five players are significant figures in Contepomi's era, having played numerous matches under his leadership. The statement emphasized the players' commitments to their respective clubs and the logistical challenges that have resulted in their non-participation in this training session.
This training camp represents an important opportunity for the coaching staff to assess physical performances and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead. It highlights the ongoing efforts to build a competitive team and address any gaps in player participation, ensuring that Los Pumas continue to evolve and remain competitive on the international rugby stage.
